Dr. David Doorey is Associate Professor of Labor and Employment Law at York University in Toronto. His research and writing in the areas of Canadian and comparative labor and employment law, industrial relations, labor and the environment, corporate social responsibility and global supply chains, and legal theory has been published in leading law journals and cited by the Supreme Court of Canada. He was called to the law bars of British Columbia and Ontario and practiced labor law on behalf of unions before returning to academia. Until 2001, he served as Legal Counsel to the United Steelworkers Union in Canada. Professor Doorey’s book The Law of Work is a leading law text used in universities and colleges across Canada. His blog Law of Work, which he started in 2008, has been a frequent recipient of the Canadian Law Blog Award for top law blog in Canada. Professor Doorey is the recipient of the Morley Gunderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Canadian Industrial Relations and a regular media commentator in Canada on matters relating to work law and industrial relations. He has been recognized with multiple awards for outstanding university teaching.

Professor Doorey is a member of Harvard’s Labor and Worklife Program Clean Slate Project International Advisory Committee. He has served as Director of Osgoode Hall Law School’s executive LL.M. in Labor and Employment Law since 2010 and as Director of York University’s School of Human Resource Management from 2016 to 2019. He was educated at the University of Toronto (B.A., M.I.R.), London School of Economics (LLM Labour Law), and Osgoode Hall Law School (J.D., Ph.D).
