Darlene Dartt, PhD, Honored with Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award

Dr. Darlene DarttIn recognition of Darlene Dartt, PhD, and her career-long commitment to mentoring multiple generations of students, trainees, and faculty, Harvard Ophthalmology has selected her to receive the 2021 Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award. 

A Senior Scientist at Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass Eye and Ear and Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Dartt is a trusted advisor, colleague, and friend to many. Since joining the department more than 35 years ago, she has formally mentored dozens of research trainees and faculty members, and informally mentored many more.

Considered the world’s leading expert in neural regulation of tear secretion, Dr. Dartt has been exceptionally successful in obtaining funding for her own research, as well as for Mass Eye and Ear. She always makes time to offer her guidance and expertise to other faculty, sharing career advice, reading manuscripts and grant proposals, and discussing their future funding plans.
